The coin that stole the limelight was the 2010-P Hot Springs 5 oz Silver Uncirculated Coin that had 134 left on Sunday, May 8 and then reached its maximum on Thursday, May 12.

The four new items were the Mount Hood Quarter Three-Coin Set which debuted at 11,282, the American Gold Eagle Uncirculated Coin which opened at 1,098, and two new Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins. Her proof version started with 1,331 and her uncirculated hit 777.

Several sets had a good week. The 2011 Proof Set gained 11,363 and the 2011 Mint Set added 8,663. All four silver sets were made available on Friday, May 6 and each one received positive gains. The 2011 Silver Proof let the silver group with 4,831.

Quarter Set, Eagle and Spouse Coins Debut

The United States Mint has published the debuting sales figures for three products that were introduced last week — the Mount Hood Quarter Three-Coin Set, the 2011 Uncirculated Gold Eagle, and the Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins. The Uncirculated Gold Eagle launched Thursday, and is likely the product many collectors are most interested in given its two-year absence from the Mint’s numismatic portfolio. Its debut sales were 1,098 as of Monday, which was slower than perhaps expected. Sales were pressured no doubt by an opening price that was much higher than any past issue and a …

Eliza Johnson Coin Debut

It has been 22 weeks since the United States Mint last released new First Spouse Gold Coins, but the long wait did not improve the debut sales of the Eliza Johnson Coins. Die hard fans of the series picked up 2,108 of them between their launch on Thursday, May 5 and Sunday, May 8. Eliza Johnson’s inaugural figures were slower than several recent releases, as the table below demonstrates. Mary Lincoln and Buchanan’s Liberty issues both did exceedingly well during their debut, while Johnson’s was less than half of either of them. Perhaps the record high price of gold put a damper on the …

5 Oz Silver Uncirculated Coins Gone

Making headlines is the Hot Springs Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin sell out and the fast moving American Silver Eagle bullion coins. Also, proof sets are back on top of the charts according to the latest United States Mint sales figures. Earlier Thursday, the US Mint enacted their "waiting list" for the Hot Springs issue after orders hit the limit of 27,000. The United States Mint message displayed on its online store read in part: "If a product becomes available due to an order cancellation, we will fulfill orders from the waiting list on a first-in, first-served basis."…

5-Ouncers Don’t Quite Sell Out

The Mint just could not quite sell out of its supplies of America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver coins in this reporting period. The collector version of the Hot Springs design nearly made it to the 27,000 number available but is still 134 short of a sellout. The coin was still offered on the Mint’s Web site May 11. For the two 2011 bullion versions, the Gettysburg and Glacier, the numbers are 1,300 shy of initial supplies of each. The Mint can strike more, but has not yet indicated …

Hot Springs Coins Max Out

Earlier Thursday, orders for last week’s hot ticket item, the 2010-P Hot Springs National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin, reached its maximum. The silver coins were released on April 28, and 26,866 sold as of Sunday, May 8. The final 134 were scooped up in the last few days, causing the US Mint to instigate their "waiting list" so that any Hot Spring orders that are canceled can still be sold on a first-in, first-served basis. In other US Mint sales news, one annual set dominated recent collector attention and …

That number was reached between the launch on Thursday, April 21 and Sunday, April 24.

Two sets had handsome gains, while sales of four annual silver sets were still suspended. The 2011 Mint Set went up by 17,210 and the 2011 Proof Set rose by 11,836. One interesting figure, though, was the inclusion of the suspended 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set that launched on April 1. The first recorded sales total came in at 78,054.

The other big news maker was the release of two 2011 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Bullion Coins. 153,400 of the Gettysburg and Glacier National Park coins were scooped up by the Mint’s Authorized Purchasers right after they were made available.

America the Beautiful Silver Coin Sales

Demand for United States Mint numismatic products turned higher for major coins and sets, the bureau’s latest sales figures underscore. This week’s report includes the first batch of debuting sales for the five-ounce 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins, the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, and the 2011 American Gold Eagle Proof Coins. The Mint’s Authorized Purchasers (AP’s) scooped up 153,400 of 253,000 Gettysburg and Glacier five-ounce America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins on their launch …

Coin Prices Higher, Fillmore Proof Up

Prices rose by $25 for First Spouse Gold Coins for the second time in April. Also springing up was demand for the oldest coin while activity for the remaining two coins eased just a bit in the latest round of US Mint sales figures. On Wednesday, April 27, the United States Mint increased their numismatic gold coin prices due to their pricing policy that uses the London Fix weekly average price of gold as a gauge for market value. The US Mint increased First Spouse proof coins from $904 to $929 and uncirculated coins from $891 to …

5 Oz Silver Bullion Coins Appear

The United States Mint added a few more products to their weekly sales report. Official sales numbers for the 2011 America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Bullion Coins and the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set were proclaimed. In just one day, US Mint Authorized Purchasers ordered a total of 153,400 of the Gettysburg and Glacier National Park silver bullion coins, which leaves 99,600 available. The Mint released the silver coins on Monday, April 25. The US Mint decided to produce 253,000 or 126,500 of each …

Buyers Grab Proof Gold Eagles

The new 2011 proof gold American Eagle coins went on sale April 21 and the chart below has the numbers of each sales option sold by April 25 when these numbers were compiled. They send mixed signals, because they are neither weak numbers nor are they strong. The 7,249 of the one-ounce coin sold represents nearly a quarter of the projected mintage. For options like the half and quarter ounce pieces, sales are less than 10 percent of the total available. This might …

2011 Proof Gold Eagles Debut

The newest appearance in the US Mint sales figures include the 2011 Proof Gold Eagle coins and two of the 2011 America the Beautiful five ounce Silver Bullion Coins. The US Mint sold 29,353 Proof Gold Eagles between their launch on Thursday, April 21 and Sunday, April 24. Broken out, it was 13,401 of the individual coins and 3,988 of the Four-Coin sets. The debut sales were not as strong as 2010’s opening numbers, but they were stronger than 2008’s debut. The US Mint did not strike proof gold Eagles in 2009 …

The latest United States Mint’s collector coin sales figures revealed the Grand Canyon Set was the third best seller of all of the numismatic offerings.

Two other sets had more sales. They were the 2011 Mint Set with 30,791 and the 2011 Proof Set with 12,430. The Grand Canyon Three-Coin Set’s inaugural sales were 12,418.

Half of the silver sets were out of the running, since the US Mint decided to temporarily suspend the sales of the 2010-dated sets until the spot price of silver stabilized. And, the sales number for the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set that launched on April 1 was still not listed in the report from the Mint.

Silver Coins Improve, Sets Retreat

Rising silver prices have helped and hindered US Mint silver products, based on the latest sales figures from the bureau. Five of the six clad and gold U.S. Army and Medal of Honor commemorative coins registered poorer weekly gains, but three of four silver U.S. Army and Medal of Honor coins improved. The silver coins contain 0.773 ounces of the metal, giving them a melt value of $34.86 at the current spot price of $45.07 an ounce. That is still $20 less …

Lincoln Gold Coins Lead

Since prices have been at an all time high, and only three coins remain available, it is no wonder sales for First Spouse Gold Coins fell from a cumulative total of 515 in the prior round down to 179. Prices increased on Wednesday, April 13 by $25 to $904 and $891 for the proof and uncirculated versions due to the rising price of gold on the market.
New Sales Wave About to Begin

This week is the quiet before the big offerings of 2010 and 2011 America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver coins and 2011 proof gold American Eagles. The charts below have been tweaked accordingly. The Mint’s target of initial 2011 ATB bullion coins was raised a bit to 126,500 from the 125,000 indicated as the tables were first prepared.
The 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set debuted on Friday, April 1, and usually the US Mint would report how many sold by Sunday. In this case, however, the new set was not listed.

Collectors picked up 9,655 of the Philadelphia minted 2011 Native American $1 coin rolls and 9,401 rolls of the Denver stamped rolls. All together, 19,056 sold between their start on Monday, March 28 and Sunday, April 3.

15,459 of the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coin Covers flew off the Mint’s shelves between Thursday, March 31 and Sunday, making them the second best sellers. The 2011 Silver Proof Set took third with 14,839.

Native American Dollars Debut

The US Mint introduced three coin products last week, and the agency has provided the debuting sales figures for two of them in its latest weekly report. 2011 Native American $1 Rolls debuted first with their launch on Monday, March 28. By Sunday, April 3, debut sales combined to 19,056, split out at 9,655 for the 25-coin (P) rolls and 9,401 for the 25-coin (D) rolls.
Mary Lincoln Coins Top Sales

There have been a few extreme peaks and valleys when it comes to First Spouse Gold Coin sales trends, and this round is no exception. The latest United States Mint sales data showed 117 cumulative sales for the coin series, compared to -350 and 968 in the prior two reports. The winners in this round were the Mary Todd Lincoln Coins. They took over the top two spots for the first time in weeks. The proof Mary Todd Lincoln rose by 61 and the uncirculated Mary …

Silver Eagles Exceed 13 Million

American Silver Eagles got off to a nice start in April, but demand for numismatic silver products weakened again, despite a new set’s launch. Just one item managed to exceed its prior week’s increase. United States Mint’s Authorized Purchasers bought another 658,500 bullion Silver Eagles in the last few days, but that number was less than the 697,500 that were picked up at the end of March. The addition, however, tipped the 2011 annual sales number beyond …

Silver Stronger as Gold Fades?

End of the first calendar quarter numbers arrived this week for the bullion coins. The Mint sold 12,429,000 silver Eagles in the first three months. If it kept that pace up all year the annual total would be nearly 50 million coins. This would represent yet another large increase in output as compared to the year before. The gold one-ounce Eagle on the other hand is setting a respectable pace of 263,500 coins in the quarter. If this pace were kept up for the entire year …

The US Mint made the 2011 Native American $ 1 Coin Two-Roll Sets available on Monday, March 28, and by Sunday, April 3 a combined total of 19,056 sets sold. Broken out, 9,655 …

Silver Eagles led with a jump in sales of 697,500 by mid week and ended March with a total of 2,767,000. Presently, 2011 sales rang in at 12,479,000.

The one item collectors coveted the most in this round was the 2011 Silver Proof Set. They took in 19,640 of them, but that was less than the 25,940 previously. So far, a total of 344,840 have sold.

The biggest losers of the group were the Mount Hood quarters bags and rolls. Their big leap in the prior report was retracted in this one. The 100-coin bags’ combined sales drop equaled -5,580 and the two-roll sets tumbled by -17,115.

Bullion American Eagles Lead

American Eagle bullion coins took center stage in the latest batch of US Mint sales figures. Their week-over-week sales levels improved for all but one offering. Seventeen US Mint numismatic products also outperformed their prior weekly gains, but the general sales trend for most collector coins and sets was down. Several were actually yanked back, registering lower totals than a week ago. The one-quarter ounce American Gold Eagle remained unchanged at …

Silver Eagles Hot

The market for bullion American Silver Eagles remains hot in March, but United States Mint numismatic silver products slowed for another week. One item did out-do its prior performance. Silver Eagles have been getting closer to the 3 million marker for March, but they have not crossed it yet. 2,767,000 have sold to US Mint Authorized Purchasers this month.
Gold Buffalo Interest at Limits?

Only 4,000 coins were sold this week as compared to last week’s debut number of 31,000. Naturally the rhythm of the marketplace dictates weekly sales totals, but is buyer interest in this coin already limited? Interest in Medal of Honor commemoratives again exceeded that for the Army coins, but the sales rate continues to fall. Just 853 gold proofs were sold, bringing the total to 10,811. The uncirculated gold total rose by 377. The more popular and cheaper silver …

Silver Proof Set Slows

Sales of the United States Mint’s numismatic items mostly slumped following an up week. Silver products led while gold mostly fizzled. Just a few handful of offerings managed to exceed their prior week’s sales. The US Mint best seller was the 2011 Silver Proof Set. Collectors took in 19,640. In the last round, the sets surged by 25,940. The 2011 Proof Set was next, with 13,829. Clad Mount Hood Quarter products and a few First Spouse Gold Coins fell back …

First Spouse Coins Jump

The latest round of US Mint sales figures reveals some interesting weekly results. They were the Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins, the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Rolls and the 2011 Presidential $1 Proof Set.

The Silver Eagles closed out last month to the tune of 3.2 million, which was a new record for the month of February. The prior best February had been in 2009 when 2,125,000 sold. The United States Mint has been matching high demand with high output of the investor coins and has sold more than 9.6 million so far this year.

Between the Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins, collectors went after 42,091 of them during their first few days on sale. The top two most popular were the $1 Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins at 25,156 and 10,346. The $5 gold options were 4,699 and 1,890 for the proof and uncirculated.

The next newcomer was the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coin rolls. The Philadelphia strikes outsold the Denver ones 23,211 to 22,523.

Finally, the biggest numismatic hit was the 2011 Presidential $1 Proof Set. It debuted at 163,129 in its first appearance on the charts.

The following articles, however, provide detailed insights and analysis about the latest changes.

Presidential Proof Set, Commemoratives Debut

The US Mint released seven products last week which included ten different coins. Rarely are so many offerings issued in such a short time span. The US Mint sales figures this week include the debut performances of the four 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins, the 2011 Andrew Johnson Presidential Dollar rolls from Philadelphia and Denver, and the four-coin 2011 Presidential Dollar Proof Set. The 2011 Presidential Dollar Proof Set went on sale …

First Spouse Coin Prices Higher

The United States Mint raised their prices for the one-half ounce First Spouse Gold Coins yesterday in response to the higher recent market price of the precious metal. At $879 per proof and $866 for each uncirculated, the new prices are the highest they have ever been in the full span of the series. The increase was necessary according to the US Mint’s pricing policy. When the average London Fix gold price moves beyond certain $50 price points as …

New to the United States Mint’s sales list this week are the 2011 Medal of Honor Silver Dollars, and they dominated. They hit the market on Friday afternoon, February 25, and by Sunday, February 27, collectors bought 35,502 of them. Broken down, 25,156 proof silver dollars and 10,346 uncirculated dollars sold.
Eagle Sales Rise With Metals Spike

Gold and silver American Eagle sales have been swift, and with gold hitting a record $1,437.20 on March 2 and silver smiling at $34.28, don’t be surprised to see that continue. Last week the Mint sold almost 1 million ounces of silver – 867,500 – as customers ordered 1 ounce bullion coins. Gold had its own fans with 9,000 1 ounce and 3,500 1/2 ounce gold coins sold. Not bad for a week’s worth of sales. The Medal of Honor commemorative coins join the list …

Silver Eagles Best February

The United States Mint launched seven new coin products last week, but only one of them landed in the three spots among the best numismatic sellers for the week. The top three performers were the 2011 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Set, the 2011 Proof Set, and the 2011 Mint Set. Bullion Silver Eagles flew off the Mint shelves too and closed out February with a new record. US Mint bullion Silver Eagles finished February at 3,240,000 and became the new …

Sets were still popular picks on the numismatic front, the latest coin sales figures revealed.

The United States Mint has been selling a lot of Silver Eagles to their Authorized Purchasers. Weekly sales may have been shy of one million, but annual sales cleared the nine million marker by mid-week.

The newly released 2011 Uncirculated Mint Set could not keep up with the 2011 Proof Mint Set, which skyrocketed by 78,551 compared to 20,053. The Silver Proof Set climbed by 14,116.

Proof silver Army commemorative coins gained 7,951, proof clads rose 4,373, and proof gold increased by 1,092. The Medal of Honor commemoratives will appear on the charts in the next report.

The only newcomer was the 2011 Kennedy half dollars. The 200-coin bags debuted with 2,114 and the two-roll sets opened with 8,841.

The following articles, however, provide detailed insights and analysis about the latest changes.

Silver Eagles Hit 9M

Surging gold and silver prices appear to be helping several US Mint coin products, including bullion American Silver Eagles and collector First Spouse Gold Coins. The latest US Mint sales figures show a near doubling of the weekly First Spouse Gold Coins totals, with 759 sold against 380 from the previous week. Four of the eight 24-karat gold coins enjoyed triple-digit gains. Sales have not been as strong since the week ending December 12. That …

First Spouse Coin Sales Gain

Remarkably, collectors scooped up nearly twice as many First Spouse Gold Coins in the latest round of weekly sales than previously. Half of the coins leaped with triple digit gains, according to the United States Mint statistics. In all, 759 coins sold compared to 381. The split was fairly close between proofs and uncirculated, 405 and 354 respectively. James Buchanan’s Liberty sold the most and the least. First, his uncirculated version climbed by …

Silver Eagles’ 9M Milestone

American Silver Eagle coins have just surged past the 9 million milestone for 2011. But while the bullion eagles and the market price of silver may be blasting off, demand for US Mint numismatic silver products is retreating. The two most popular items in the prior US Mint sales report, the 2011 Silver Proof Sets and the US Army Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins, underperformed in this round. The Silver Proof Set remained the top …

No Juice in Commemoratives?

Even before the Medal of Honor commemoratives were to go on sale Feb. 25, sales of the Army commemoratives seem to be coming to almost a complete stop. This was especially true for the $5 gold pieces. The proof was up by just 1,092. The uncirculated rose by just 375. It was better for silver dollars. The proof moved higher by 7,951 and the uncirculated by 2,705. Half dollars registered gains of 4,373 for the proof and 2,403 for the uncirculated …

2011 Proof Sets Win

The 2011 Proof Set did it again. It outperformed its weekly sales increase for the second week in a row. Even more impressive was the fact that its sales beat out the uncirculated 2011 Mint Set that just launched on February 8. According to the latest United States Mint sales figures, the Proof Set rose by 78,551. Previously it climbed 73,789. January 11 was its first selling date. The 2011 Mint Set, on the other hand, gained 20,053 during its second week …
