US Mint Collector Coin Sales Update – May 22

The biggest news for the week was the spectacular sales performance of the second redesigned 2009 Lincoln penny. In just four days, more than 20 million of the cents were purchased through the two-roll sets sold by the Mint. The rolls went on sale Thursday, May 14.

First Spouse Gold Coins also improved over the last report, with demand for six of the eight options increasing. Sales of Braille Silver Dollars increased slightly as well. Puerto Rico quarter tallies were mixed.

In news this week for quarters, bags of "P" minted Puerto Rico Quarter sold out while bags and rolls of Guam Quarters go on sale Tuesday, May 26.

Mint Stats: Numbers Soar for Second Lincoln Roll Set

It is a good thing that sales numbers for the second 2009 Lincoln cent roll set are available this week, because otherwise things are kind of summertime sleepy – and the calendar says it is not even summer yet.

Lincoln Rail Splitter Penny Sales Steaming Like a Locomotive

Released Thursday, May 14, sales of the 2009 Lincoln Rail Splitter cent (formerly known as the Formative Years cent), are surpassing all expectations. Demand at the official release ceremony in Indiana was exceptionally high, kicking the coin’s popularity into an even higher gear.

The ceremony took place at Lincoln Amphitheatre in Lincoln State Park, Lincoln City, Indiana. An estimated 3000 people attended the event which is double the turn-out for the ceremony in Kentucky that marked the first Log Cabin cent release.
