Most Popular Collector Coins: Buffalo Proofs and Mint Sets

US Mint coinsUS Mint Sets and American Buffalo Gold Proof Coins soared above other collectibles in this week’s sales figures, but the Buffalo Proofs received the most news attention.

The Buffalo Proof’s impressive start of 19K – in just one weekend – made headlines since it nearly surpassed the one ounce 2008 Buffalo Proof sales, and the new proof began with a much higher price tag of $1,360.

In other noteworthy news, the uncirculated Mint Set crossed the half million milestone after adding 23K to the totals, and the Mint Proof set tacked on another 18K to make it reach 1,225,747.

With the upcoming launch of the Lincoln Presidency Cent on Nov. 12, we can expect to see improvements in the Lincoln Penny products next week. Also, the announced deadline for Braille Silver Dollar orders might spur more interest in coming weeks. Collectors have until Dec. 11 to purchase the last of the commemorative Braille coins.

Sales Stats imageBreaking a recent October “up or down only” trend but returning to a more normalized pattern in general, the latest US Mint sales stats show mixing with fluctuating demand based on the type of collector silver coins. As for investor minted American Silver Eagle bullion coins, they have enjoyed stronger demand during the last seven days.

Getting back to coins for collectors, Braille Silver Dollars improved over last week’s report, with the exception of the newer Braille Education Set which advanced 793 compared to the prior 1,004. 2009 Lincoln Sales, Presidency Cent Coming Soon

Lincoln cent product sales were mixed, according to the latest US Mint sales figures. Three of the five available products with Lincoln coins experienced improved sales over the prior week.

The 2009 US Mint Uncirculated Set increased by 23,469, compared to last week’s jump of 22,613. Total sales are now over one half a million, and it was released just a little over a month ago.
