Silver Eagles and Medal of Honor Coins Highlight Sales Figures

US Mint coinsHighlights for the week’s coin sales figures include red hot bullion American Silver Eagles and three new products. They were the Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins, the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Rolls and the 2011 Presidential $1 Proof Set.

The Silver Eagles closed out last month to the tune of 3.2 million, which was a new record for the month of February. The prior best February had been in 2009 when 2,125,000 sold. The United States Mint has been matching high demand with high output of the investor coins and has sold more than 9.6 million so far this year.

Between the Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins, collectors went after 42,091 of them during their first few days on sale. The top two most popular were the $1 Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins at 25,156 and 10,346. The $5 gold options were 4,699 and 1,890 for the proof and uncirculated.

The next newcomer was the Andrew Johnson Presidential $1 Coin rolls. The Philadelphia strikes outsold the Denver ones 23,211 to 22,523.

Finally, the biggest numismatic hit was the 2011 Presidential $1 Proof Set. It debuted at 163,129 in its first appearance on the charts.

Eagle Sales Rise With Metals Spike
