The last US Mint sales figures were a bit boring, except for a few new numbers. One ounce UHR Gold Coin figures updated from 112,065 to 115,178. That means over 3,000 sold in the final available days.
Two more standout gold numbers appeared. Buffalo Proofs rose by 1,089 this time compared to last week’s 555, and after half ounce First Spouse Gold Coins were combined, collectors purchased 407 in this report versus the prior 330.
The 2008 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set continues to sell well, adding over 1,000. Other collector sets, however, performed with less vigor than before, as many collectors are simply waiting for new 2010 products from the Mint.

Overall demand for collector US Mint products chugged a little higher as last year ended and this year began. Gold coins and silver sets enjoyed some attention, while only a few saw softened sales.
The 2009 Mint Proof set had its fourth week of declining sales, even though new sales added almost 9,000. Collectors boosted sales for the 2009 Silver Proof set, buying over 7,000 this week versus the prior 6,465.
Another gainer was the Proof American Buffalo Gold Coin. Sales advanced 555, compared to the prior 522. First Spouse coins picked up 330 in all, a decent improvement over the previous 113. Unfortunately, we haven’t heard how the Mint fared with the 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles in its last four days of December. New sales numbers were not included in this report. Their total stood at 112,065.

Demand was low for collector US Mint products during Christmas week, the data revealed. Stats were low almost across the board.
The Mint sold over 1,000 of the 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint Gaudens Double Eagles as the deadline to order approached. This report showed a full seven days of sales, but the next will consist of the last and final four days, since the Mint ceased sales at 3 PM (Eastern) on Thursday, December 31, 2009.
Proof American Buffalo Gold Coin sales were down, despite the popularity of gold last week. About the only gold to improve during the holiday was the Letitia Tyler First Spouse uncirculated gold coin, which gained 20 in this report but only 13 in the last report.

Lower gold prices on December 16th helped boost sales figures of a few US Mint products. In fact, American Buffalo Proof and Ultra High Relief Double Eagle coins were the bright spot in this week’s sales stats. Both performed better than the last report.
Performing worse, however, were proof and uncirculated sets. For example, the Mint Proof Set gained a little more than 16,000 this time compared to nearly 26,000 in the week before. The Mint’s Uncirculated Set increased by 13,425, compared to the prior 15,905 gain.
As the end of the year approaches, many products go off sale. December 31st, 3 PM Eastern Time, is the deadline for Ultra High Relief Double Eagles as well as Jefferson and Madison Presidential dollar rolls and bags, to name a few.

The US Mint lowered their gold coin prices on Thursday, December 17, which is good news for any collectors buying the last of the 2009 UHR Double Eagles. The price dropped $50 to $1,489.00. The deadline to purchase one is December 31st before 3 PM Eastern Time.

2009 American Gold Buffalo Bullion Coins were on fire for the short period they were available. The United States Mint released the one-ounce, 24 karat gold coins on Oct. 15. Within five days 71,500 were sold, which represented nearly 42 percent of 2008’s total.
Although the sales pace later cooled compared to the opening numbers, the amount that left US Mint doors in either October or November turned out to be greater than any single month in 2007 or 2008. And by Dec. 4, the Buffalos sold out.
In the end, 200,000 Buffalo gold coins were purchased in 2009, topping 2007 and 2008 sales.
US Mint authorized dealers would have bought more, but no more were to be had.
"The United States Mint has depleted its inventory of 2009 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Bullion Coins," U.S. Mint Director of Public Affairs Tom Jurkowsky said in announcing their sellout. "No additional inventory will be made available."

US Mint sales data indicate collectors were going after the 2009 Mint Uncirculated Set with a vengeance during the week of Thanksgiving, since sales jumped by more than 9,000 over the previous week. More than 28,000 sets were purchased, making the total for the year surpass the 600,000 milestone.
2009 US Mint Proof Sets were the second place top sellers for the week. Over 22,000 flew off the shelves, which was down slightly from last week’s 25,000. Still, the year-to-date sales reached an impressive 1.3 million status.
Many deadlines are approaching and should be noted. According to the US Mint’s web site, orders placed by December 7th for any in-stock items will be delivered by December 25th via Standard Delivery, and orders placed by December 11th can still make it by the 25th via Express Delivery. Also, December 11th is the deadline to order any of the Braille Silver Dollars or the Braille Education Set.

According to the last US Mint sales figures, one ounce gold collector coins slowed compared to the prior report, while half ounce gold coins gained. It could be high prices that caused the slow down, but it’s more likely that most collectors and investors simply focused on bullion coins.
One ounce UHR Gold Coins and Buffalo Proofs rose by 1,091 and 3,017 this time compared to 1,098 and 4,316 on the last report. When the half ounce First Spouse Gold Coins were combined, collectors purchased 457 in this report and 412 in the last report.
The newest Mint products include Zachary Taylor’s Presidential $1 coins that launched on Nov. 19 and the Lincoln “Presidency” Cent that launched on Nov. 12.
